PhentermineŽ
(Appetite Suppressant - Oral)
Uses
Phentermine is an appetite
suppressant taken by mouth. It is used along with an overall diet plan to reduce
weight.
How to take this medication
Phentermine performs best when you take it on an empty stomach one half-hour
before breakfast. Phentermine may cause sleeplessness, so avoid taking a
dose late in the day. Take it only as prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication only as long as your doctor tells
you.
Side effects
Phentermine can cause dry mouth, sleeplessness, irritability or stomach upset.
If these effects persist, inform your doctor.
Precautions
Your complete medical history is important, especially
if you have high blood pressure, an over-active thyroid, glaucoma, diabetes or
emotional problems. Before taking
Phentermine, if you think you are pregnant or before breast-feeding, you should
consult your doctor. Alcohol can increase unwanted side effects of dizziness.
Limit alcohol use. Phentermine is not recommended for use in children.
Drug interactions
Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use, (prescription and
nonprescription) especially if you take high blood pressure medicine or MAO
inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) or any
other weight loss medicine. Avoid "stimulant" drugs that may increase
your heart rate such as decongestants or caffeine. Decongestants are commonly found
in over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.
Notes
Phentermine will not take the place of proper diet. For maximum effects, this
must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program. Do not share this
medication with others.
Miss dose
If you miss a dose of Phentermine, skip the missed dose and resume your usual
dosing schedule.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture. Keep this and all
medications out of the reach of children.
